R.I.P. Michael Jackson

In those few moments during which they unloaded his white-enshrouded body from the green helicopter onto a maroon-padded gurney atop the Los Angeles Coroner's Office building, one could decipher within its mummy-like shape: the feet pointed together as if tightly bound, and it was a sad feeling to know that they would never dance again.

Hey, I saw this last night but didn't feel like commenting then. And then I saw you over at Susie's this morning and came back to comment.

I loved his music - Rockin Robin was a hit as I started high school - much to my chagrin. Because we're close in age, I always would look at him (as projected to us) and compare with where I was in my life. I always felt sorry for him. Not allowed grow up. Which seems the fate of many child stars. To me, all his weirdness just spoke of a genius that got too fucked up to reach it's full potential. So sad. And I'm already cringing at some of the blather I'm hearing. Yours and Susie's and some of the posts at BoingBoing have been the only ones I've paid attention to. Thanks.

(though I'm not clicking any links - maybe for days because nothing is loading well - too many people hitting on the vids)

Thanks for commenting, E. I agree with you, of course, on all points.

I took some videos down from this post -- they were never loading correctly. No idea why. Anyway, for those interested those videos were:

1) Billie Jean Best Ever Moonwalk, 1:32 minutes of Michael Jackson.

2) Thriller, as performed (practice run) by more than 1,500 inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, Cebu, Philippines; 4:26 minutes.

3) Lego version of Michael Jackson's original "Thriller" music video, replicated shot for shot; 13:42 minutes.

A very poignant sentence, ER.

Thanks.
